What is the Asia Pacific Studies Minor?
It is an interdisciplinary field of study offered by the
College of Humanities & Social
Sciences for students who are interested in the humanities and
social sciences in the Asia Pacific region. CAPEC works with CAS
faculty to administer this minor.
What should I do if I am interested in the Asia Pacific
Studies Minor?

- Once you have decided to include this minor to your program,
complete the "Change/Declaration
of Academic Program" form. The declaration of change
of minor option is at the bottom part of the form.
- Get any of the advisor's signature and submit to the Registrar's
Office. Your minor will be reflected in your transcript.
How do I get a course approved?
Make an appointment with Prof. Hung or Prof. Brian Platt. Have
the description/syllabus of your course at hand when you go for
the appointment.
Can 100-level language courses be considered as an elective?
No, only higher level will be considered for electives. However,
any 200-level Asian language coursework can be taken as one of the
required courses. Students are strongly encouraged to include a
language component in their minor as this would give them a better
understanding of cultural and social issues.
What can I do with an Asia Pacific Studies minor?
A minor in Asia Pacific Studies will give you a better understanding
of an important region of the world, broaden your perspective, and
give you an edge in seeking jobs in various government agencies,
international organizations, private businesses, law firms, and
non-profit organizations that deal with Asia Pacific. It also prepares
you for graduate studies in the humanities and social sciences.
